Leon Leschus is responsible for the calculation of the HWWI commodity price index. He joined the Hamburg Institute of International Economics (HWWI) in May 2006. In his PhD thesis he analyses which variables play a role in influencing oil prices.

Leon Leschus studied economics at the University of Münster and Business Administration at the University of Rome ("La Sapienza"). His main research interests are raw material markets, business cycle, economic growth, social policy as well as the new institutional economics.
