On January 31st, Isabel Sünner, Head of International Cooperation at the Hamburg Institute of International Economics (HWWI), was invited to take part in an expert panel on the future perspectives of smart specialization strategies (S3) during the high level “Future of Europe” Conference in Lahti, Finland.

The panelists shared thoughts regarding the EU's post 2020 multi-annual financial framework and what they see as key challenges to manage S3 at the macro-regional Baltic Sea Region level in the post 2020 period. In addition to that, Isabel gave an insight into HWWI’s Interreg Baltic Sea Region project “GoSmart BSR” - (short) objective and value of GoSmart within a macro-regional context, experiences with the testing phase of a newly developed methodology to identify priority areas for interregional S3 collaboration and how this links to improving the Baltic Sea Region’s value chain orientation.
