Workshop on "Innovative green port solutions in small and medium sized ports"

The Hamburg Institute of International Economics (HWWI) and Niedersachsen Ports as project partners in the Interreg North Sea Region project DUAL Ports were the co-organizers of a workshop on "Innovative green port solutions in small and medium sized ports". This workshop aimed to discuss needs, challenges and methods for developing eco-innovative port programmes and to inform about the innovation potential of decarbonizing regional ports through hands-on transnational pilot actions.

25 participants from the maritime industry, EU policy representatives and partners of DUAL Ports spent the afternoon learning about innovative green port solutions, and had fruitful discussions about how to tackle challenges in greening port business.

"Being a vital part of the transport network regional ports are confronted with a multitude of challenges, particularly with a lack of sufficient public resources and innovation capacity to implement de-carbonization strategies. This challenge can be addressed by a collaborative transnational approach of testing eco-innovative technologies and processes", says Isabel Sünner, Head of International Cooperation.

The workshop took place during the European Week of Regions and Cities in Brussels on 10th of October 2018.
