In der Publikationsreihe „HWWI Research“ werden Reports und Paper veröffentlicht, die die Forschungsergebnisse von HWWI Mitarbeitern sowie von Forschungspartnern präsentieren. Sie sind gedacht und konzipiert für nationale und internationale Fachkreise.

HWWI Research Reports stellen ausführlich Ergebnisse der institutseigenen Forschungsarbeit vor. Sie erscheinen sowohl in gedruckter als auch in elektronischer Form.

HWWI Research Papers sind Forschungsbeiträge, die die Ergebnisse der Forschungsarbeit von internen – und bei Kooperationen – auch von externen Wissenschaftlern präsentieren. Sie erscheinen mehrmals im Monat und sind lediglich online verfügbar.

HWWI Research Reports und Papers erscheinen in deutscher oder englischer Sprache (in Ausnahmefällen stehen sie ebenfalls in beiden Sprachen zur Verfügung).



The EU Gender Earnings Gap: Job Segregation and Working Time as Driving Factors

This paper estimates size and impact factors of the gender pay gap in Europe. We find that about one third of the gap can be traced back to the role of the explanatory factors included in our analysis. The sectoral segregation of genders is identified as the most important barrier to gender pay equality in European countries.

The social pay gap across occupations: Survey and experimental evidence

Although receiving equal wages for work of equal value is a legal right in many countries, it remains unknown to what degree the neglect of this principle yields differences in pay between social and other occupations. Results from our research suggest that individuals in social jobs are only partly compensated for their social effort.

Regarding gender differences, theory suggests that in a partnership the individual with the lower working hours and earnings position should exhibit lower training participation rates.
