Professional Career

Lea Bernhardt is deputy head of the research department “Energy & Commodities” at the Hamburg Institute of International Economics (HWWI). She is a postdoctoral researcher at both the Helmut Schmidt University and the Hamburg Institute of International Economics.

She studied Economics and Management at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (B.Sc.) and at the School of Economics and Finance at the University of St Andrews, UK (M.Sc.). After completing her studies, she worked for the European Central Bank in Frankfurt and for Berenberg Bank in Hamburg. In March 2023, she received her doctorate in Economics at Helmut Schmidt University Hamburg, supervised by Prof. Ralf Dewenter. Subsequently, she joined the Firms and Markets Department at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin).
