This study conducts a comprehensive analysis of all merger cases within the European Union from 1990 until the conclusion of 2019, with a focus on constructing a subsample comprising all mergers that were either withdrawn or prohibited. The dataset assembled for this research is derived from official decision documents and encapsulates detailed information concerning the parties involved in the mergers, the intricacies of the review procedures, as well as the textual content of the decisions. The study aims to identify identify possible common characteristics of non-cleared cases, such as economic sector, date of the merger decision, or textual characteristics of the decision documents themselves.
