Professional Career

Dirck Süß has been the Managing Director of the Hamburg Institute of International Economics (HWWI) since June 2021.

He studied economics at Christian-Albrechts University in Kiel from 1989 to 1991 and at Philipps-University in Marburg from 1991 to 1999. From 1996 to 1999, he worked as a Research Assistant at the Frankfurt Institute for Transformation Studies at the Europa-Universität Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder). He completed his doctoral dissertation on “Privatization and Public Finances” there in 2000.

From 1999 to 2021, Dirck was a member of the management team at the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, where he took on various responsibilities, including areas such as transportation policy, education policy, and regional development. From 2012 to 2021, he headed the Department of Economic Policy.
