Professional Career

Joel Methorst has been Deputy Head of the Environment and Climate Department at the HWWI since March 2022. He studied Environmental Sciences (B.Sc.) at Leuphana University in Lüneburg and subsequently completed a Master’s degree in Ecology and Evolution (M.Sc.) at Johann-Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt am Main. After completing his studies and Master’s thesis at the Senckenberg Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre (SBiK-F), he began his DFG-funded dissertation under the supervision of Prof. Katrin Böhning-Gaese and in cooperation with the German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv) in Leipzig and Kiel University. In September 2020, he received a postdoctoral position at Helmut Schmidt University in Hamburg, where he has since been working at the Chair of Political Economy and Empirical Economic Research with Prof. Michael Berlemann.
